(Miri, 28th) Deputy Minister of Women, Children, and Community Wellbeing of Sarawak, Dato Rubiah Yunus, officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Projek Waterfront Bekenu (Kampung Rambai) project today.
In her speech at the event, she stated, today is an important moment for our community as we take the first step in enhancing connectivity and stimulating tourism through the Projek Waterfront Bekenu. This initiative is not just about building a new waterfront but a foundation for progress, development, and better opportunities for everyone in this region.
She said that this project will provide a riverside and related facilities along the Kampung Rambai River, opposite the Bekenu market, offering us all a beautiful space for leisure and recreation. Imagine us walking by the river with our families, children playing in the beautiful gardens, all of us enjoying the serene scenery. It is a place where we can relax, have fun, and connect with each other. The public can also comfortably and safely watch sailing events.
"The enchanting waterfront will attract tourists, which means our residents will have more business opportunities. Shops, restaurants, and tourism activities will thrive, creating new jobs for our children. Villagers can also profit by selling local products. The Waterfront project will beautify the area, making it a landmark to promote tourism and protect the riverbank from erosion.
She pointed out that the project will also improve infrastructure such as roads, streetlights, and other public facilities, benefiting our daily lives.
"Although we are starting the construction phase today, we recognize that every development comes with its own challenges. We may encounter some difficulties during this period, but I urge all parties to work together to ensure this project proceeds smoothly. The success of the Waterfront construction depends on everyone's support and cooperation. We are committed to ensuring that this project is carried out earnestly and transparently. We will involve the villagers in every stage of the development. Let us support this project together to create a better future for Bekenu."
The project costs over RM4.13 million and will begin on April 4th, expected to be completed by April 3rd next year.
