(Miri, 28th) Miri District Police Chief Assistant Director Alexson Naga confirmed that the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the Miri Police Headquarters conducted operations in two locations in Miri yesterday, arresting two local men involved in drug trafficking.
The first police operation took place at around 10 PM on the 27th of this month in the Tunku Village, where one local man was arrested, and approximately 50.10 grams of methamphetamine was seized, with a street value of about 5,511 Malaysian Ringgit.
The second case occurred around the same time on the 27th of this month on Hokkien Road, where another local man was arrested, and a total weight of 165.51 grams of various drugs was seized, valued at 19,767 Malaysian Ringgit.
Both suspects will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which provides for the death penalty, or life imprisonment, and at least 12 strokes of the cane if found guilty.
Miri Police also urge the public to report any information regarding drug activities to the nearest police station to jointly curb and prevent such activities.
