On Monday local time, a coal mine explosion occurred in the mining area of Sutatausa, Cundinamarca Department, Colombia, trapping at least 12 miners.
Jorge Emilio Rey, Governor of Cundinamarca, said on social media that according to the latest reports, there are currently 12 people trapped about 600 meters underground, while another 3 managed to escape on their own.
According to preliminary information from the authorities, the explosion may have been caused by an accumulation of gas underground. Initial reports indicate that after the explosion, at least 14 miners were trapped underground, and two others were rescued and are receiving treatment, but the specific situation remains unclear.
The local government has activated a city-level unified command center, and rescue teams have arrived at the scene to carry out operations.
