(Sibu, 7th) A total of 11 licensed crocodile hunters attended a briefing session on the Human-Crocodile Conflict Management Program and crocodile hunting license terms, organized by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) on Monday (July 6).
According to a statement issued by SFC, the purpose of this session was to provide licensed crocodile hunters with information related to human-crocodile conflict management, deepen their understanding of hunting license terms and conditions, and ensure all hunting operations are conducted professionally, safely, and in compliance with legal regulations.
During the briefing, the organizers explained in detail the procedures for handling human-crocodile conflicts, the reporting requirements after capturing crocodiles, the responsibilities of license holders, operational safety measures, and how to use social media responsibly to avoid posting content that might cause misunderstanding or create negative perceptions regarding crocodile management work.
This session was hosted by SFC's Enforcement and Protection Team, and also served as a platform for licensed hunters to share their field experiences, provide feedback, and seek further clarification about license conditions and the management of human-crocodile conflicts in their respective areas.
In addition, SFC's Deputy General Manager (Conservation) Madahan Kiflie, Head of the Crocodile Management Unit, as well as representatives from the License, Permit, and Registration Team at Kuching headquarters, also participated online via Zoom.
SFC hopes that through such briefing sessions, they can further strengthen the cooperation between the organization and licensed crocodile hunters, ensuring the management of human-crocodile conflicts in Sarawak is implemented effectively, with integrity, and in accordance with wildlife conservation goals.
