Cultural Learning Academy Continues in August, Passing on Chinese Philosophy and Culture

(City, 10th) The Jide Care Association’s "Cultural Learning Academy," held every Thursday evening at Honghua School, will continue its lectures in August. This session’s curriculum continues to arrange for participants to take part in sharing activities, enhancing interaction and learning among students.
This academy session focuses mainly on general cultural knowledge, introducing the flourishing development of thought during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, which ushered in an era where a hundred philosophical schools contended and thrived. Different schools of thought, such as Confucianism, Daoism, Legalism, Mohism, military strategists, Logicians, Yin-Yang school, and others, all emerged, pushing Chinese intellectual civilization to new heights.
In the "Shuowen Jiezi" (Explaining Simple and Compound Characters) topic, the lecturer gave a detailed analysis of the evolution from oracle bone script and bronze script to Small Seal Script, and explored the origin of the character "road" (路) and its related derived characters, including xī (蹊), jìng (径), tú (途), dào (道), lù (路), qí (歧), chà (岔), kāng (康), zhuāng (庄), jiē (街), xiàng (巷), lòng (弄), qiān (阡), mò (陌), etc., explaining the cultural and historical backgrounds of different types of roads.
The lecturer also gave a brief introduction to the course of Chinese history through interesting picture presentations, especially highlighting the evolution of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors. Using the form of military maps, participants were guided to understand historical events such as King Wu's campaign against King Zhou, the Duke of Zhou’s eastern expedition, the Five Hegemons of the Spring and Autumn period, the Seven Warring States, and the rise and unification by the state of Qin.
During the student interaction session, in addition to reciting classical poetry together, Teacher Shen Zongxiang gave a detailed analysis and introduction to "Guan Ju" from the Book of Songs (Shijing·Zhou Nan·Guan Ju). Teacher Xing Xiuzhu compared the modern poet Yu Guangzhong’s "Four Rhymes of Homesickness" with classical poetry, showcasing the mutual brilliance of ancient and modern poetry.
Finally, during the selected classics reading session, the teacher explained the meaning and connotation of four passages from the Analects, further enriching the students’ cultural knowledge.
