Produced by Mega Star Pictures, Teng Yang Pictures, and D Channel, and supervised, directed, and written by Don Hoe (He Jin Yi), the Malaysian original film The Nine Emperor recently officially wrapped filming. The entire cast and crew held a wrap party to celebrate the successful completion of this movie that integrates local beliefs, culture, suspense, and explorations of human nature.
Hong Kong Film Awards Best Supporting Actor Philip Keung (Jiang Haowen) expressed his special thanks to the behind-the-scenes staff at the wrap party, highly praising the crew’s professionalism and efficiency, and noting the remarkable teamwork. He revealed that he had viewed some rough cut footage—even though the film still awaits color grading, soundtrack, and final edits, the overall feel already left a deep impression on him. “This crew is truly amazing and professional, and everyone is very dedicated. When I saw some of the rough cut footage, even though it’s not the final version, many scenes already have a really strong vibe and moved me deeply.” Philip Keung is confident in the film’s quality and looks forward to future collaboration with the team.
Director and producer Don Hoe (He Jin Yi) said that the entire filming process went even more smoothly than expected, with the crew often finishing early each day and sharing a harmonious working atmosphere on set. He revealed that the film has now entered post-production; and though the edit is still preliminary, many scenes have already exceeded the team’s expectations, and he is confident the post-production will deliver an even more stunning visual presentation.
Recalling the filming experience, Don Hoe shared a memory that left a deep impression on the whole crew. He said it rained almost every day during shooting, but whenever they had important scenes or the camera was about to roll, the rain would always stop just in time, allowing the crew to successfully complete their work. The most unforgettable was the final scene: “Ba Bo Ye’s Possession.” The weather was extremely bad that day and the team was worried the scene wouldn’t be filmed. Unexpectedly, at around 6 p.m., the rain suddenly stopped, the skies cleared, and the crew seized the opportunity to complete the last shot, perfectly wrapping up the movie.
Lead actress and producer Chen Junjun also shared her thoughts at the party, even shedding tears of emotion. She admitted that, apart from the pressure of performing, she also bore the responsibilities of a producer. The biggest challenge was the long failure to find a crucial filming location. Later, she offered prayers at Ji Gong Temple near Kek Lok Si Temple, sincerely hoping for help. Unexpectedly, a breakthrough came three days later, and with the help of Air Itam State Assemblyman Wong Hon Wai, the team finally found a site that met the director’s requirements.
She stated that the whole process felt as if it was fated. Don Hoe also believed that from preparation to wrap, the project was aided by many timely helpers, and the series of coincidences during filming made the team even more confident the production was blessed.
