(Miri 14th) The Northern Sarawak Journalists Association recently paid a courtesy visit to the office of Miri Member of Parliament, Chiew Choon Man, and discussed the plan for a visit to the Malaysian Parliament scheduled to take place at the end of this year.
Chiew Choon Man noted that he warmly welcomes this meaningful visit plan proposed by the association and promises to assist with the necessary arrangements, including applying for permission to visit the parliament, coordinating guided tours, and arranging meetings with some MPs and ministers.
"As an MP of Miri, I always welcome any organization, educational institution, or association from Miri to visit during parliament sessions. My office will assist with coordination work and maintain communication with the parliament management unit to ensure the visit proceeds smoothly."

He added that last year, he also assisted several secondary and primary schools and student groups from Miri to visit the Klang Valley for academic exploration, specifically incorporating a parliament visit into their itinerary, allowing students to experience the atmosphere of our nation's legislative operations firsthand.
"The Parliament is the highest hall of our country's democratic system and belongs to the people. As their representatives, we have the responsibility to bring more people, especially the youth and local media workers, closer to and familiar with the Parliament."
He stated this aligns with the Speaker of the House of Representatives' vision of making Parliament an open and inclusive "People's House."
"Through the parliament visit, people will have the opportunity to understand the policy-making process, the responsibilities of MPs, and the uniqueness of our parliamentary democracy system."
He believes that witnessing the proceedings of the House of Commons and the work of MPs will help raise public interest in national affairs, cultivate a good sense of civic duty, and further establish a healthy political awareness.
"I strongly believe that through this direct exposure to democratic education, we can inspire people to express and participate in more informed and systematic ways, injecting positive energy into the development of our democracy."
