According to the latest Reuters/Ipsos public opinion poll, currently only one-third of Americans support a war with Iran, marking the lowest level since the outbreak of the conflict five months ago. Nearly 70% of respondents said President Trump has failed to clarify his objectives.
As for Trump’s overall approval rating, the poll conducted from the 24th to the 26th shows a slight increase of three percentage points from last month, reaching 37%. In late June, his approval rating dropped to a record low of 34% during his term.
Since the U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran on February 28, American public support for this war has fallen below 40%, in sharp contrast to public opinion during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
During the Iraq War from 2003 to 2011, about 70% of Americans supported the conflict at its outset. According to Gallup, initial support for the Afghanistan war (2001-2021) was around 90% among the American public.
However, this latest survey found that 69% of Americans believe Trump “has not clearly stated the objectives of U.S. military intervention in Iran,” including 40% of Republican supporters.
