Shah Alam SITEC Mall shooting incident, the victim and the shooter do not know each other.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein stated that the police have received 7 reports regarding the shooting incident, with the reporters including the injured cleaner and the car driver who was held hostage.
He said investigations show that the victim does not know the shooter, so the real motive for the shooting is still unknown.
"The police identified the shooter's real identity through on-site investigation and the mall’s CCTV cameras."
It is understood that the suspect fired a total of 13 shots, injuring a cleaner, and then ran to the parking lot to hijack a car, taking the driver hostage to leave the scene.
The injured cleaner was shot in the back and legs a total of 4 times and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Emphasizing Safety, Management: Open as Usual Today
SITEC Mall management expressed deep regret over the shooting incident at their center, stating that the center will operate as usual on Sunday (9th).
The management insists that the safety of customers, tenants, and mall staff is their top priority.
"We are closely cooperating with the relevant authorities, who have approved the mall to operate as usual today."
Saturday (February 8th) night’s shooting incident resulted in a mall cleaner being shot in the leg and hip. The victim has been sent to the hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
The police have confirmed the identity of the shooter and are investigating the case under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 307 of the Penal Code (attempted murder).
Police Chief: Public Should Not Speculate
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Lazaruddin urged the public not to speculate recklessly about the SITEC Mall shooting incident, as any speculation would only confuse the situation and make it worse.
He indicated that security measures in national malls and public places have been strengthened.
"We have also instructed auxiliary police and security personnel to be vigilant of any suspicious activities."
He added that the same vigilance is required in other states, and police officers must remain alert.
