Following the international acclaim of 'The Story of Southern Witch' and 'May Snow', Golden Horse Award-winning director Zhang Ji'an's brand new work 'Cradle to the World' is set to premiere in cinemas across Malaysia on August 14. Starring Hong Kong Film Award-winner Liao Zijie and rising star Hui Enyi, both leads will visit Malaysia on August 10 to meet fans and promote the film.
The film also brings together double Golden Horse and Hong Kong Film Award-winner Yuen Fu Wah, Choi Po Chu, Tan Mei Ling, Yuan Teng, Jasmine Suraya, Dishaaleny Jack, and Mia Sabrina in a joint performance. The story revolves around the dilemmas of baby abandonment protection pods, exposing the harsh truth of marginalized social violence.
The film has been honored at major film festivals, including the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival's Asian Future Competition section, the Opening Film of the 49th Hong Kong International Film Festival, the Youth Jury Grand Prize at the 39th Fribourg International Film Festival, the Shanghai International Film Festival Asian Film of the Year section, New York Asian Film Festival, Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival, Istanbul International Film Festival, and more. After touring film festivals internationally for a year, it finally returns home and will officially premiere on August 14.
Bringing together film crews from Malaysia and Hong Kong, the film is produced and planned by Shengchuang Entertainment founder Lin Jincheng, co-produced by Wong Chiu Sun, Wong Jing Yi, and Long Guo Yao. It is a joint production by Jiangzi Films, Island Films, and Offline Films, and distributed by Mega Films Distribution. 'Cradle to the World' will have audience meet-and-greet sessions from August 10 to 11 in Kuala Lumpur.
