Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Trump who is currently visiting the Middle East, stated that the process of demilitarizing Gaza could begin within 30 days.
On the 17th, after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in Jerusalem, he told Fox News Channel in an interview, "We could see progress as soon as within 30 days. Hopefully, by then, we can begin to remove some weapons, and in the following 60 to 90 days, be able to fill in some of the tunnels."
He also issued a warning that if Hamas fails to deliver on its commitments, "Israel will then receive even stronger support from the United States and other parties."
Kushner stated that the U.S. would not allow reconstruction in Gaza before demilitarization is achieved. Furthermore, if faced with an imminent threat, the U.S. would not restrict Israel's right to self-defense.
Regarding his meeting with Hamas leaders in Egypt the previous day, Kushner described the talks as very harmonious. He said that the Hamas side said everything it should have said, but this must be based on actual actions and measures, expressing hope that it would ultimately become a reality.
