Who says size always means dominance? A dramatic 'David vs. Goliath' standoff recently unfolded in Singapore's Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Six otters surrounded a crocodile several times their size in a 'battle of the beasts', ultimately forcing it to retreat—a scene that caused quite a buzz after being made public.

A video uploaded to a Facebook group on March 22 shows the group of otters constantly vocalizing while swimming around the crocodile, at times moving in closer, then quickly pulling back, persistently engaging with their massive foe.

In response to their repeated advances, the crocodile tried several times to snap back, but each time the nimble otters managed to dodge deftly. The two sides faced off for a while in a tense scene.

Despite its size advantage, the crocodile eventually 'admitted defeat', slowly retreating and submerging itself as it left the scene, while the otters continued to linger in the area.

Veteran wildlife observer Rovena Chow, in an interview with The Straits Times, shared that she was in the reserve observing other animals when, at around 7:20 am on March 22, she witnessed this encounter and uploaded the video to a Facebook group.

"I was lucky to capture these precious moments soon after entering the reserve early in the morning," said the 53-year-old real estate agent, who has been passionate about wildlife observation for the past five years.

Another witness, 50-year-old trading systems manager Dan Walsh, described the otter-crocodile standoff as 'an incredible encounter.'
