The Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Gobind Singh, pointed out that the government is studying the impact of China’s open-source Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform DeepSeek on Malaysia.
He said the government is seriously evaluating DeepSeek and its models to adapt them for local applications and keep pace with the rapid development in the AI field.
“In the past, we witnessed the rise of ChatGPT and many developments in the AI field. This process is ongoing. As we move forward, we will see more new products emerging.”
“I think we need to study deeply and ultimately find out how to adapt to the development trend of this technology.”
He said this to reporters today (2nd) after attending a temple digital management system briefing at the Arulmigu Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.
According to foreign media reports, China's DeepSeek AI chatbot is rapidly gaining global attention, with its AI model capabilities comparable to, or even surpassing, well-known platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
DeepSeek’s rise has sparked discussions in the tech industry because it operates with far fewer resources than its competitors yet demonstrates powerful performance, impacting market performance in the tech field, especially in the semiconductor industry.
