Jay Chou's (Jay) concert at Taipei Arena is in high demand, and a couple surnamed Huang from Kaohsiung pretended to have a large number of tickets. They allegedly lured fans online to transfer money, scamming over 5.88 million Taiwanese dollars (approximately 810,000 ringgit). They then flew to Korea and squandered the money, only to be caught on their return at Kaohsiung Xiaogang and Taoyuan airports by the detectives from Kaohsiung City Police Department. They confiscated four mobile phones used in the crime, two bank books, and two financial cards.
The police have identified more than 60 victims so far, including a graduate student who transferred over 1 million Taiwanese dollars (about 137,000 ringgit) in one go but did not receive a single Jay Chou concert ticket. Realizing they were cheated, they reported it to the police. The investigation revealed that the fans purchased tickets through cash or bank transfer, but Mr. Huang (29 years old) and his girlfriend Ms. Zhuang (27 years old) never delivered the tickets. The prosecution estimates the fraudulent amount to be over 5.88 million Taiwanese dollars, and the couple has been detained. The authorities continue to investigate the flow of fraudulent funds and other victims.
