Reported: Chinese Badminton Association Chairman Zhang Jun Under Investigation, Missing for Over Ten Days

On April 24, a major piece of news broke in Chinese badminton: double Olympic champion and chairman of the Chinese Badminton Association Zhang Jun has reportedly been placed under investigation by the discipline inspection authorities and has been out of contact with the outside world for over ten days.

Zhang Jun was last seen in public on April 17, which was eight days ago. Recently, he has consecutively missed events such as the Asian Championships and the Thomas & Uber Cup.

As an Olympic champion, Zhang Jun took up management roles after retiring and currently serves as chairman of the Chinese Badminton Association and vice president of Nanjing Sport Institute. Sources reveal that Zhang Jun has already been taken away for investigation by the discipline inspection and supervisory authorities, mainly concerning his work as the chairman of the Badminton Association, but also involving some matters related to his job at Nanjing Sport Institute.

After Zhang Jun went missing, his relatives reportedly inquired about his whereabouts at the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau, but did not receive a clear response. Yesterday, reporters contacted the offices of the Chinese Badminton Association and Nanjing Sport Institute, and both responded: “Unaware of the situation”, “Not clear about his daily office arrangements.”

According to the journalists, Zhang Jun’s phone has been switched off for several days. In addition, his leadership information has been removed from the official website of Nanjing Sport Institute, indicating the seriousness of this incident.

After retiring, Zhang Jun once served as a coach for the national team. In 2019, he was elected chairman of the Chinese Badminton Association. In 2023, he was successfully re-elected as chairman. In 2025, Zhang Jun was elected as a council member of the Badminton World Federation and concurrently served as vice president of Nanjing Sport Institute.
