The White House stated on January 31st that President Trump decided to impose a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico starting February 1st, and a 10% tariff on goods from China.

White House spokesperson Levitt confirmed that the tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico, and China will be implemented as scheduled. However, she did not disclose details, such as whether Canada's and Mexico's oil would be included in the tariffs, or if certain goods would be exempted.

Trump later stated that China, Canada, and Mexico could not prevent the implementation of these tariffs, and he threatened to impose tariffs on goods like chips, oil, and natural gas, noting that tariffs on oil and natural gas are likely to be enforced on February 18th. Trump also mentioned that tariffs would be imposed on the EU, accusing the EU of not treating the U.S. fairly.

Mexican President Sheinbaum stated that they would calmly await Trump's tariff decision and are prepared to continue dialogue on border issues. The Chinese side reiterated multiple times that the essence of China-U.S. economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win, and that tariff wars, trade wars, industrial wars, and technological wars will have no winners.

After taking office on January 20th, Trump set February 1st as the deadline to impose tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada unless the two countries take action to stop illegal immigration and the inflow of fentanyl into the United States. Meanwhile, Trump threatened to impose a 10% tariff on Chinese goods due to the fentanyl issue.
