A small plane crashed in a dense residential area in the major city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, and caused a fire. The extent of casualties is currently unknown.
The incident occurred on January 31, when the plane crashed in a community in northeast Philadelphia, igniting a fire on the ground. Dozens of firefighters have arrived at the scene. Media broadcasted images of fireballs rising from the ground in the densely built-up community.
Local broadcaster FOX29 cited a senior police commander at the scene reporting that there were 6 people on board the plane that crashed in Philadelphia. AFP could not confirm the report. The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management wrote on the social media platform X that a "major incident" occurred near the intersection of Cottman and Bustleton Avenues, opposite the Roosevelt Shopping Center in northeast Philadelphia. Area roads have been closed, and the public is advised to avoid the area.
According to online map websites, there are dozens of emergency responders outside the Roosevelt outdoor shopping center, which has a large parking lot and several food stores and shops.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro wrote on X, "We are providing all resources to respond to the small private plane crash incident in northeast Philadelphia."
According to a list by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Northeast Philadelphia Airport is near the location of the incident and is used by small aircraft.
