(Petaling Jaya, 18th) – Amidst the controversy of an uncle caning his nephew, the police have announced that the involved uncle has been arrested. Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner S. Sutin issued a statement saying police received the related report at 1:21pm on Saturday (January 17).
“Preliminary investigations revealed the incident occurred at a residence in Petaling Jaya, and the suspect is the victim’s uncle.”
The incident is believed to have arisen from an altercation involving the victim, aged between 8 and 11, and the suspect’s mother (the victim’s grandmother).
According to a 35-second video circulating online, the victim was shown being caned with a rattan stick and having a chair thrown at him.
The police will investigate the case under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001. The suspect will be brought to the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court on Sunday (January 18) to apply for extended detention.”
S. Sutin urged the public not to spread false information on social media, and also called on anyone with information to visit the nearest police station or contact the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (03-79662222) or the investigating officer (016-5379507) to provide information.
