(Kuching, 5th) The Sarawak Islamic Council has announced that the standard rate for Zakat Fitrah in Sarawak for 2026/Islamic year 1447 will be maintained at RM7.50 per person, the same as last year.
Dr. Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister in charge of the Sarawak Premier's Department (Regional Development Agency, Kuching North City Commission, and Islamic Affairs Project Coordinator), stated that fulfilling the obligation of zakat not only purifies the soul and wealth, but also ensures the continued welfare of vulnerable groups.
He said, “Zakat ensures that the asnaf (eligible recipients) and other needy individuals can meet their basic needs, enabling them to celebrate Hari Raya more fully.”
“Therefore, I urge Muslims to seriously fulfill this religious obligation.” He made these remarks yesterday (February 4) at the Sarawak Islamic Centre Hall, during the Sarawak Islamic Council’s aid distribution ceremony to mosques, prayer rooms, and Islamic cemeteries.
He also reminded the public that zakat contributions should be made through formal and compliant channels.
“The payment of Zakat Fitrah must be made through legally recognized channels approved by the Sarawak Islamic Council,” he said.
On another note, Muslims nationwide are expected to begin the fasting month on February 18 (Wednesday).
