In the city center of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, a public bus crashed into people waiting for a bus during the afternoon rush hour on the 15th, resulting in 3 deaths.
According to footage released by Swedish media, the bus crashed into a bus stop, and there was a large number of ambulances and emergency vehicles at the scene.
Police stated: “The incident has resulted in 3 deaths, and identification of the victims is ongoing. Three injured individuals have been sent to the hospital.”
A police spokesperson told AFP that the cause of the accident is still unclear. It is too early to draw any conclusions at this stage. The bus driver has been detained, and, as is customary, an investigation into ‘manslaughter by negligence’ has been launched.
An eyewitness told the media that at the time of the accident, she had just gotten off another bus. “I crossed the street and saw that double-decker bus crash into the group of people waiting in line at the platform. People were screaming and trying to help the injured.”
She said, “At first I thought it was a drill, maybe with dummies. Everything was so unreal, completely chaotic.”
