In Tianshui City, Gansu Province, China, a pair of siblings aged just 12 and 11 ran away from home on the first day of the new semester (27th), out of fear of being scolded by their father for not completing their winter vacation homework. At the time, a cold snap had just hit, with temperatures dropping to around 1°C and accompanied by cold drizzle. The two left home wearing only thin clothing. After receiving the report, the police dispatched more than 30 officers and used drones to search for them. After about 14 hours of searching through the night, the siblings were finally found the following morning, with only minor hypothermia.

The incident of missing students occurred on the very first day of the new school term. The siblings, worried about being reprimanded by their parents, left home together and did not return. Their parents, frantic after discovering the children had not come home overnight, immediately called the police for help.

Upon receiving the report, the police immediately activated an emergency search protocol, deploying more than 30 officers, bringing police dogs, and dispatching drones equipped with thermal imaging, conducting a grid search in the cold and drizzly night. The search and rescue personnel worked in shifts, checking every remote corner of the county seat, abandoned buildings, and surrounding mountainous areas one by one.

In order to avoid being found, the siblings deliberately avoided the lights and calls of the rescue teams, continually moving deeper into more hidden mountainous areas, further increasing the difficulty of the rescue operation.

After an uninterrupted search lasting 14 hours, the rescuers finally found the siblings around 10 a.m. the next morning in a secluded mountain hollow. At that time, both children, having been exposed to cold and rain for a long time, had pale faces and lips and were shivering uncontrollably. Fortunately, after being examined by medical personnel on site, it was confirmed that aside from minor hypothermia, there were no other major issues.

When handing the children safely back to their parents, the police also specifically reminded them that while education is certainly important, the manner of communication with children and their psychological state should receive greater attention, in order to avoid extreme behaviors caused by excessive pressure. The police urge that during the start of the school season, parents should not only pay attention to academic performance, but should also give children enough understanding and care.
