Hong Fuk Court 5-Alarm Fire: King Charles Expresses Condolences, Praises Courage and Unity on the Frontlines

The 5-alarm fire at Hong Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong, has resulted in heavy casualties. As of now, at least 128 people have been confirmed dead, with around 200 still missing. In a rare move, King Charles III of the United Kingdom expressed his condolences to Hong Kong through the Royal Family's official Facebook page in the early hours of the 29th. He stated that he and Queen Camilla are deeply saddened by the tragedy, extending their heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims and all people of Hong Kong, and will keep them in their prayers.

The King described the Hong Fuk Court fire as a "catastrophic tragedy." During this extremely painful time, he and the Queen offer their deepest condolences to families who have lost loved ones, are still searching for family members, or are living in shock and confusion.

The King also praised the courage demonstrated by rescue workers during the fire, making special mention of the firefighters who risked danger and worked around the clock on rescue efforts. He noted how the community supported and helped one another in times of crisis, which was deeply moving.

He said: "In the face of such a terrible tragedy, supporting each other is a source of strength, and I have witnessed this courage in Hong Kong during this heartbreaking time."
