(Kuching, Jan 30) The Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Chairman of the Disaster Management Committee, Datuk Amar Douglas, has indicated that rescue supplies from the Sibu and Miri areas have been deployed to support the security forces in rescuing flood victims in Bintulu.

He stated that additional assets are crucial for officials to immediately evacuate flood victims to temporary evacuation centers.

He said that the Bintulu branch of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee has made every effort to request asset assistance from Miri, Sibu, and Bintulu to meet the asset needs for helping the victims.

“We must immediately evacuate all residents affected by the flood to the 8 temporary evacuation centers that have been activated in the Bintulu area.”

Datuk Amar Douglas stated this during an interview after inspecting the temporary evacuation center at Chung Chua School in Batu Kawa today. As of now, the Bintulu flood has affected about 720 families, with the number of victims reaching 2,823.

“I along with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will visit Bintulu tonight to inspect the disaster situation in the area.”

He indicated that Bintulu is currently one of the most severely affected areas, with over 400 millimeters of rain falling yesterday, flooding almost the entire area.
