Ronald Cheng Appears After Divorce With Hands Tied: No One Is Forcing Me

Published at Jul 29, 2026 08:41 pm
Hong Kong star Ronald Cheng and his second wife, anchorwoman Sammie Yu, have a son and a daughter together. His wife had recently accompanied him to the US for alcohol addiction treatment, but soon after, they confirmed their marriage was in trouble and decided to divorce. The two ended up in court over alimony. After Ronald Cheng announced he would take a break from work, he mostly disappeared from the public eye, except for appearing at a movie promotion and as a guest at his friend Alex Fong's concert. Unexpectedly, in a recent public video appearance, he was seen with his hands tied behind his back, looking serious and declaring, ‘No one is forcing me.’

In the video, he is wearing glasses and has a stubbly beard, sitting in a chair and playing the role of a 'hostage.' His hands appear to be tied behind his back, while three masked staff members stand behind him, pointing weapons at him and signaling him to read from a script. With a very unwilling expression, he says: ‘Motivision’s live broadcast platform R Live has officially launched. There will be many exciting live streams and highlights, everyone please subscribe. I personally totally support this, and absolutely no one is forcing me.’

In recent months, Ronald Cheng has remained out of the public eye, even going silent on his own YouTube channel, which he founded and which has nearly 640,000 subscribers. It wasn’t until this ‘hostage’ video by his staff that he shared an update. In addition, he will appear at the Taipei Dome in mid-next month for a performance, seemingly preparing for a comeback.
