Forty Years After Barbara Yung's Passing, Kent Tong Rarely Discusses the Past: 'I've Never Dreamt of Her'

TVB's popular leading man of the 1980s, Kent Tong, recently appeared on a YouTube program hosted by his friend Yeung Siu-hung, where he rarely spoke about his past with the late actress Barbara Yung. It has been 40 years since Barbara Yung's passing. Kent Tong revealed that he has never dreamt of her, calmly saying, 'Maybe she doesn't want to bother me.'

Kent Tong and Barbara Yung fell in love while filming dramas together and were considered the golden couple of the entertainment industry at the time. However, due to busy work schedules and spending little time together, cracks gradually began to appear in their relationship. In 1985, shortly after an argument, Barbara Yung ended her life at home by gas inhalation. She was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment but did not survive, passing away at the age of 26. After the incident, Kent Tong became the focus of public opinion, labeled as a 'heartless man,' and his career in show business fell into a slump.

On the program, when asked whether Barbara ever visited him in a dream, Kent Tong said directly that she hadn't, and shared that he was emotionally low at the time, avoiding the entertainment industry for nearly two to three years and relying on his family to get through the tough times. Looking back, he admitted that if he had realized how extreme her emotions were back then, 'I definitely would have done everything in my power to protect her,' but he also acknowledged that, being young, he never expected it would end in such an irreversible tragedy.
