(Limbang, 27th) — The Sarawak state government will assess the recent storm damage in Limbang District to determine the assistance needed for affected residents and damaged public facilities.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah stated that the state government will first carry out a damage assessment to determine the extent of the disaster and estimate the relevant repair costs, after which the findings will be submitted to the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for discussion.
During his visit on Tuesday (25th) to the storm-affected area at Kampung Bukit Kota Hall, he said: “We have decided to conduct a damage assessment to determine the severity of the disaster and the estimated costs involved.”
According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Awang Tengah pointed out that the state government has identified the affected private residences and has also received reports of damage to public facilities, including community halls, mosques, suraus, and government buildings.
It has been reported that schools, hospitals, and government staff quarters were also affected by the storm.
He said: “We will coordinate with the State Disaster Management Committee to secure aid for those affected by the storm.”
He added that, following the incident, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and Tabung Baitulmal have provided preliminary assistance to the affected residents.
The Limbang Islamic Welfare Trust (LAKIL) and the Limbang District Disaster Management Committee will also provide appropriate assistance based on the needs of the victims and available resources.
