UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Türk said on the 7th that statements threatening to wipe out an entire civilization are appalling.
In a statement, he condemned incendiary remarks amid the Middle East conflict, especially the newly emerging threats to eliminate an entire civilization and those targeting civilian infrastructure.
He said, “This is appalling.”
He stated: “Threatening language that spreads fear and creates panic among civilians is unacceptable and must stop immediately.”
Türk pointed out that, under international law, deliberately attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure constitutes a war crime.
Two weeks before the US and Iran agreed on a ceasefire, US President Trump posted on social media on the 7th, threatening Iran by saying, “Tonight, an entire civilization will be wiped out, never to return.”
Trump said: “I do not wish such a thing to happen, but it might happen.”
