(Singapore, 11th) A suspected otter attack on a pedestrian led to the police cordoning off the pathway near Jiak Kim Bridge in a city park, with park authority personnel also investigating the matter.
This incident occurred on Sunday (May 11th) around 7 am, at Kim Seng Park near Robertson Quay in Singapore, close to the Jiak Kim Bridge.
Local reporters received public notifications indicating that a section of the park pathway at the mentioned location was cordoned off, with several police officers present at the scene. It is understood that a member of the public was possibly attacked by an otter.
Reporters visited around 10 am on Sunday morning and found that the park pathway runs alongside the Singapore River, with at least a 10-meter section cordoned off. By then, the police had left the scene but three personnel wearing park authority uniforms remained at the site for investigation. Some animal enthusiasts were also present, conversing with the officials.
Interviewed members of the public stated that otters frequently appear in the area. One anonymous person mentioned walking her dog along the park pathway every morning.
She indicated that there would usually be at least five or six otters spotted, swimming and playing in the river. "They occasionally also walk along the park pathway."
Upon observation, there are at least three signs along this section of the park pathway reminding the public to be aware of otters, with instructions to "maintain a safe distance from otters." One of the signs states, "There is a family of otters residing temporarily in this area; it is their habit to care for and protect their young," urging the public to observe from a distance.
A spokesperson for the park authority confirmed the receipt of a report regarding an otter biting incident. The spokesperson pointed out that members of the local otter enthusiast group "Otter Working Group" were present and provided emergency assistance to the injured person.
