(Simunjan, 8th) – In response to the land acquisition issues involved in the RM226.7 million upgrading project for the Gedong-Simunjan Road, a coordination dialogue session was held on Thursday (May 7) at the Simunjan District Office.
The meeting was chaired by Simunjan state assemblyman Awla Dris and attended by representatives from the Sarawak Land and Survey Department, Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD), contractors, and affected landowners. The main focus was on the implementation of the Gedong–Simunjan Road (Section B) project.
Awla stated that this dialogue was highly important and would help systematically resolve matters regarding land acquisition and boundary delineation, while also protecting the rights and welfare of affected residents.
After chairing the meeting, he remarked, "The government remains committed to ensuring the successful implementation of development projects without neglecting the rights and welfare of the people."
He further added that the road upgrade project is expected to significantly enhance the convenience, connectivity, and road safety levels for residents in the Simunjan area.
He pointed out that the project would serve as a catalyst for economic and social development in surrounding areas by improving road links and mobility.
During the meeting, key points discussed included land acquisition matters, project implementation coordination, and measures to ensure timely progress of the construction.
The Gedong–Simunjan Road (Section B) project adopts a design-and-build approach and will construct a new 5.88 km road meeting JKR R3 standards, with a dual carriageway featuring four lanes.
The project also includes the construction of two reinforced concrete bridges (spanning the Simunjan River and Enggiri River), drainage systems, streetlight installation, traffic management, and works to relocate and protect public facilities.
The project’s duration is 36 months, commencing from December 22, 2025 to December 21, 2028.
Residents attending the dialogue were given the opportunity to express their views, raise questions, and provide suggestions regarding land matters associated with the project, fostering mutual understanding and ensuring smooth progress of the project.
