Son Passed Away, Elderly Wife Has Limited Mobility: 90-Year-Old Hat Yai Vendor Gains Attention from Netizens

A 90-year-old noodle vendor in the major southern Thai city of Hat Yai, after losing their only son a few months ago, is single-handedly caring for his bedridden wife and relies on daily sales to make a living. His situation has attracted continued support from a TikTok user, who later even sponsored a new signboard for his stall.

According to Thai media Thaiger, the account owner with the username @iiceziii posted about this, filming the process of conversing with the elderly vendor and later sharing the short video online. In the video, the vendor explained that his wife, who is over 70, can no longer walk, and that after recovering from his own illness, he only started selling noodles again three days ago.

According to the post, the couple’s only son passed away about five to six months ago. The Hat Yai noodle vendor now sells Thai-style kuay jap to support his wife; although she cannot hear, she is said to smile beside him while he works.

Each portion of kuay jap is priced at about 40 to 50 baht, with generous servings. He has always kept the price unchanged, reportedly out of concern that raising prices would drive away customers.

According to the TikTok post, this vendor sets up his stall in the morning outside Wat Khlong Ple in the Kho Hong Subdistrict; if there is leftover stock, he sets up again in the evening outside the 7-Eleven near Khlong Hae Big C mall in Hat Yai.

The account owner encourages her followers to visit and support the couple, describing the food as high in value for money and generous in portion.

The post has generated a strong response from netizens, with many sending their blessings for the couple’s health. The account owner later stated that she had a brand new plastic signboard custom-made with the vendor’s name for the stall.

Netizens have praised the gesture, with many commenting that the new sign gives the humble stall a fresh look, and wishing the couple good health and prosperous business.
