(Miri, 8th) Prominent investors from Brunei and Malaysia gathered in Miri to discuss strategic cooperation for the "Kenyalang Smart City" (KSC) development project, aiming to explore new opportunities for cross-border economic collaboration.
Under the framework of the "Brunei-Miri Economic Cooperation Conference," a delegation of 30 notable business leaders and policymakers from Brunei met with Malaysian representatives to focus on discussions of cross-border cooperation, infrastructure, digital innovation, and sustainable urban development topics.
This exchange event, titled the "Brunei-Miri Economic Cooperation Conference," was held this morning at the Miri City Council building conference hall.
This initiative was proposed by Sarawak's Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Bin Tun Openg, aligning with the goals of the "Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030" (PCDS2030) to promote economic prosperity, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. The cooperation conference was driven by Miri City Mayor and Pujut State Assemblyman Adam Yii.
KSC Leading Miri's Economic Transformation
Kenyalang Smart City has been in the spotlight for winning the "Mixed-use Building (Malaysia) Category" award at the 2024 International Property Awards for its convention and exhibition center. Its recognition has been further enhanced by recently signed cooperation agreements, including the Fudan University Institute of Comprehensive Medicine and Research Center soon to be established at KSC.
With the realization of KSC and the support from the Sarawak and Miri governments, there is a growing momentum attracting strong interest from Brunei's business community. This economic cooperation conference is based on Brunei's investment potential and strategic opportunities brought by KSC in northern Sarawak, promising significant benefits for the region and related communities.

Potential Benefits of Brunei-Miri Economic Cooperation Conference:
Increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): Explore opportunities for joint ventures in fields of smart infrastructure, tourism, healthcare, clean energy, education, data centers, and innovation parks related to KSC.
Enhancement of Cross-border Trade: Through enhanced economic relations, customs procedures are expected to be streamlined, integrating digital trade platforms between Brunei and Miri.
Synergy of Tourism and Business Hubs: The international standard integrated tourism facilities and business services offered by KSC are highly attractive and relevant to Brunei's high-end tourism and investment market, which currently lacks similar packages.
Sarawak My Second Home Program (S-MM2H): The S-MM2H program appeals to developers and end-users looking to invest in residential real estate at KSC. Compared to the national level second home program, S-MM2H has advantageous conditions and benefits.
