In the late 1970s, Sam moved to Australia to seek more acting opportunities. In 1979, his role in ‘My Brilliant Career’ not only took him to the Cannes Film Festival but also gained him international recognition. Sam would later become world famous for playing paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant in ‘Jurassic Park’, with a career spanning art films, television works, and Hollywood blockbusters. In 2023, Sam revealed in his memoir ‘Did I Ever Tell You This?’ that he was diagnosed with stage 3 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. Earlier in 2026, he had said that, after participating in a clinical trial and receiving CAR-T cell therapy in Australia, scans showed no more cancer cells in his body.
