(Miri, 6th) Organized by the Miri Basketball Association, the "2025 Shiwei Hypermarket Business Cup U15 Boys and Girls Basketball Championship" was grandly inaugurated last night at the Miri Basketball Association court. The event aims to promote basketball, encourage young players to learn and exchange skills, raise the overall basketball standard, and serve as preparation for selecting Miri Division's U15 boys and girls representative teams.
At the opening ceremony, Miri Basketball Association Chairman Liao Guowei encouraged all participating players to uphold sportsmanship and compete fairly, emphasizing that improper means should not be used in pursuit of victory.
"Our goal when we step onto the court is clear—to win. But this victory should not be built on unscrupulous means. We should strive for every match and fight for every victory with all we have. When you put on your jersey and lace up your shoes, you represent more than yourself; you represent your team. Show your best self and let the audience witness your true abilities."
He also pointed out that this tournament also serves as a selection for talented players for the upcoming Sarawak U15 Youth Basketball Championship. If all goes well, Miri is expected to host the event, with the tournament scheduled for September this year.
"If the event is hosted in Miri, it will give our youth team home court advantage. I hope our players seize this opportunity to perform at their best, and that our senior team provides the greatest support so that Team Miri can win the championship at home."
He concluded by encouraging the players to perform to the fullest, enjoy the games, have fun while playing basketball, and expressed gratitude to guest sponsor and Miri Basketball Association Vice President Dato Sri Lai Guobao for his continued support of this event.
