(Bandar Seri Begawan, 31st) Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) today welcomed 50 job seekers to participate in a career readiness bootcamp jointly organized by the Brunei Job Centre (JCB) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The program reflects the joint commitment of the public and private sectors to assist Bruneian job seekers in acquiring the skills, mindset, and confidence required in an increasingly competitive job market.
As part of the program, the bank held a leadership dialogue entitled “Discover Your Strengths,” delivered by the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Haji Mohammad Yusri. This session focused on qualities and abilities valued by today’s employers and explored how job seekers can position themselves for long-term career success.
In his speech, Haji Mohammad Yusri emphasized the importance of confidence and effective self-presentation, noting that these qualities can have just as much impact on employers' perception as academic qualifications. He also stressed the value of lifelong learning, encouraging participants to view knowledge as a continual pursuit beyond formal education.
He further highlighted the role that exposure to opportunities and active participation play in career development, stating that improving personal visibility, building networks and professional relationships are vital factors in creating opportunities and enhancing one's reputation within the industry.
In addition to technical skills, he underscored the importance of goals, character and mindset in career development, urging participants to cultivate clear personal objectives, motivation and direction, and described these as key factors for driving continuous professional growth.
He also reminded participants of the importance of strengthening their spiritual foundation, to trust in Allah, seek guidance through prayer, and continue to fulfill religious duties. He stressed that success comprises effort and faith, and encouraged participants to be charitable, grateful, and maintain sincerity of intention while preparing for their careers. He pointed out that these values help foster resilience, humility and perseverance throughout one’s professional journey.
Participants were also encouraged to focus on integrating their strengths, interests and potential with meaningful opportunities, rather than simply pursuing certifications, and to balance diligence with reliance on the wisdom and guidance of Allah in the pursuit of their career aspirations.
The leadership dialogue aimed to inspire participants to actively take charge of their own career paths, proactively seek opportunities, build professional image, and develop qualities sought by employers. The dialogue also enabled participants to learn about a wide range of employment opportunities in BIBD and the financial sector, which are not limited to traditional Shariah-related roles.
Through these sessions, participants further understood the abilities, attitudes, and professional mindsets required in the workplace, while boosting confidence and gaining deeper insights into how to translate their academic backgrounds, skills, and interests into a fulfilling career development path.
This initiative is part of the bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting the employability and workforce development of Bruneian youth. The bank will continue to collaborate with the Brunei Job Centre, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and other stakeholders to help local talent prepare for future labor market needs and opportunities.
This ongoing effort plays an important role in cultivating a resilient, future-ready workforce that can adapt to emerging industry demands, meet international standards, and drive innovation. By strengthening human capital and enhancing workforce capabilities, these efforts will support Brunei Darussalam’s economic diversification goals and advance the long-term vision of Brunei Vision 2035, to achieve a dynamic, knowledge-based, and sustainable economy.
