KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is ramping up preparedness to welcome heads of state and delegations attending the 46th ASEAN Summit and related meetings here, ensuring that all procedures are carried out smoothly.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director (operations) DCP M.V Sri Kumar said that at least four simulation exercises have been conducted in close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and various relevant agencies.

“Yesterday, we held a full-scale rehearsal based on the actual arrival schedule of the heads of state.

“Today’s simulation focused on refining details such as the stopping point for official vehicles, walking routes for photo sessions, and other protocol elements,” he told Bernama at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) today.

He said 6,200 police personnel have been deployed on a rotational 24-hour basis, with operations progressing smoothly thus far.

“These exercises also help in coordinating assignments and positioning personnel at strategic locations to ensure the safety of the heads of state and foreign delegates,” he added.

On road closures around KLCC, which began today, Sri Kumar said implementation has been smooth, and the delegates’ travel to their respective destinations has proceeded without significant issues.

“There may be some public misunderstanding that the closures are continuous. In fact, they are only enforced temporarily to allow convoys to pass through safely.

“I thank the public for planning their journeys or opting for public transport during the summit. At times like this, the nation’s interests must take precedence,” he said.

The 46th ASEAN Summit kicked off today with senior officials’ meetings, followed by ministerial-level meetings on May 25, while the leaders’ summit will begin on May 26.
