(Samarahan, 14th) Three men attempted to commit theft at a junk shop but were unsuccessful and were arrested on the spot by the police outside the shop last midnight.
The incident occurred at 12:45 a.m. at a recycling shop located on Jalan Muara Tuang in Mile 8. At that time, the Samarahan Police District crime patrol team spotted three men acting suspiciously.
Samarahan Police District Chief Superintendent Damataries Lautin stated that the patrol team intercepted and arrested them immediately after discovering that the three had just come out from the shop's fence.
“Preliminary questioning revealed that the three suspects admitted to attempting to break into the shop for theft. However, due to the quick actions of the police, they were unsuccessful,” he said in a statement today.
The arrested three suspects are local men, aged 29, 31, and 36.
“Investigation shows that two of them have criminal records, including offenses related to the Dangerous Drugs Act and the Penal Code.”
He added that no stolen items were found at the scene, and the shop owner has yet to be contacted.
“Investigators will return to the scene today to gather further information, including confirming whether the shop is equipped with CCTV surveillance equipment.”
Superintendent Damataries also revealed that the three suspects were brought to the Samarahan Court this morning to apply for a remand order to assist the police in investigating under Section 447 of the Penal Code (criminal trespass).
He added that the police are conducting an in-depth investigation to ascertain if there are other criminal attempts related to this case.
