(Miri, 4th) Miri Zhunti Guanyin Hermitage will be holding three Lunar New Year Dharma Assemblies during the Year of the Horse (Bingwu Year), sincerely inviting the public and devotees to actively participate, bathe in the Buddha’s grace, and celebrate the festival together.
The dates of the three Dharma Assemblies are as follows:
The first event is the Avatamsaka Day Dharma Assembly held on the twenty-ninth day of the lunar twelfth month (February 16, 2026); the second is the Bingwu Year Lunar New Year Dharma Assembly held on the first day of the lunar new year (February 17, 2026); and the third is the Jade Emperor’s Birthday Dharma Assembly held on the ninth day of the lunar new year (February 25, 2026).
The three Dharma Assemblies will be jointly presided over by the resident Nawangkian Vajra Guru and Venerable Shi Shangren Xiashun, who will lead followers in chanting sutras and Buddha’s name, to purify body and mind, and pray for favorable weather, national prosperity, and people's peace in the new year.
Zhunti Guanyin Hermitage stated that although Buddhism teaches the principle of seeing through worldly concerns and not being attached to mundane matters, in order to allow sentient beings to participate in sutra chanting and Buddha recitation during these assemblies, and to realize the Buddha’s compassionate spirit of universal salvation, they have specially integrated festive and thanksgiving elements into the Lunar New Year celebrations. This is to express gratitude to nature and harmonious weather, which resonates with the spirit of gratitude towards the Creator advocated by other religions.
