(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) The University of Brunei Darussalam and Kagawa University recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of Japan's academic partnership.

This event marks twenty years of successful collaboration since 2005, promoting research programs and student exchange programs.

The partnership has resulted in joint research in areas such as public health, diabetes, childhood obesity, and nutrition education. Both universities are dedicated to utilizing rare sugars as dietary supplements for patients with diabetes or obesity.

Kagawa University is a leader in the field of rare sugar production, thus making the region a hub for this research. Other collaborative projects include workshops held in Brunei schools to promote healthy nutrition.

During the celebration, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Brunei Embassy in Japan, Pengiran Amir Zohan, emphasized the importance of forty years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and highlighted the ongoing commitment to strengthening ties.

Kagawa University President Professor Ueda Natsuo expressed pride in this partnership and the potential for future collaboration in education and research.

The event also showcased the impact of the collaboration, including the success achieved by Brunei students studying at Kagawa University. The exchange program continues to benefit students, with six medical students from the University of Brunei currently participating in Kagawa University’s international winter medical school.

Looking ahead, both universities are committed to further expanding collaboration in clinical research, professional exchange, and training, ensuring continued positive impact on both nations and the world.
