Israeli Defense Minister Hints at Possible Future Military Action to Prevent Iran from Acquiring Nuclear Weapons

Published at Jun 13, 2026 12:00 pm
On the 12th, Israeli Defense Minister Katz issued a statement saying that Israel must ensure it will have the ability in the future to independently take action to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. For this reason, he and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu have instructed the Israeli military to make appropriate preparations.

He pointed out that U.S. President Trump is currently acting in the interests of the United States by promoting a deal with Iran, which also includes the shared U.S.-Israeli interest of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

He said: "We expect him (Trump) to adhere to this principle, and to uphold principles as well regarding Iran's missile program and its terrorist proxies."

He also pointed out that Israel will not withdraw troops from the so-called security zones it occupies in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza.

He stated that Israel's security principle is to respond simultaneously to threats coming from both near and far, rather than making compromises and concessions.
