(Bandar Seri Begawan, 5th) The Royal Brunei Marine Police (POLMAR) recently cracked a smuggling attempt in the waters.
The marine police patrol team discovered a suspicious boat navigating along the Tanjung Kindana coast in the afternoon of the crime day. The boat, carrying a trawl net, was heading towards the Kampong Sungai Bunga waters. Upon detection by law enforcement, the two suspects immediately stopped the boat and leapt into the water, disappearing into the nearby mangrove area. The marine police, with the assistance of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, are currently conducting a manhunt for the suspects.
Initial checks and investigations of the boat revealed several black boxes covered with fishing nets. Further investigation confirmed that the boat was carrying contraband, totaling 1250 packs of various cigarette brands.
The case is being investigated under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006. All seized items, including the boat, have been handed over to the Customs Department for further action and investigation.
The authorities will continue to strengthen patrols and surveillance to ensure that there are no criminal activities in the country's waters. The public is also urged to report any suspicious or illegal activities, especially those occurring in the waters, to ensure national peace and security.
