The mainland Chinese period idol drama Pursuing Jade has recently been popular in Taiwan. The male lead Zhang Linghe, in a special interview with CCTV, addressed the show’s success in Taiwan and said he believes the intensity of emotions in the drama resonates with people in Taiwan.

Last Friday (April 24th), CCTV’s video platform released a special interview with Zhang Linghe. He is the leading actor in Pursuing Jade, playing the role of Marquis Wu’an, Xie Zheng, in the series.

Zhang Linghe said that the drama overlays elements of Chinese period dramas, which helps convey Chinese culture to the audience. He believes that although the cultural elements unique to period dramas may seem small, they can inspire viewers to explore the historical stories behind them.

Regarding the fondness from the people of Taiwan, Zhang Linghe said: “It’s certainly not just because of our impressive costumes or beautiful visuals. It must be the emotional intensity inside that resonates in their hearts.”

After returning from a visit to mainland China, KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wen said in a radio interview on Qianqiu Wanshi on April 12th that young people who accompanied her to the mainland told her, 'Why make cross-strait relations so complicated? Just invite the mainland performer Zhang Linghe to Taiwan, that’s enough.'

Last Wednesday (22nd), when asked if there was hope for Zhang Linghe to visit Taiwan for exchanges, mainland spokesperson Zhang Han responded that Beijing has always supported “mutual pursuit” in cross-strait film and television cultural circles and welcomes mainland performers to visit Taiwan and meet the public.

Zhang Han said that the relevant remarks made by young people in the KMT delegation express the sincere hope of Taiwanese youth for cross-strait film and television exchange and peaceful cross-strait relations. She added that this vividly demonstrates the unique role of cultural and film exchanges in drawing the hearts of compatriots on both sides of the Strait closer together.

Zhang Han also said that compatriots on both sides of the Strait share the same roots, culture, and ethnicity, and that cultural resonance is the most natural emotional link. Beijing will continue to create favorable conditions for cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, supporting more artists and youth groups from both sides to visit each other regularly, using culture as a bridge to deepen mutual understanding and promote spiritual affinity.

Public records show that Zhang Linghe was born in 1997 in Wuxi, Jiangsu, graduated from Nanjing Normal University with a degree in electrical engineering, and his notable works include Love Between Fairy and Devil, A Journey to Love, and The Last Immortal.
