Teo Nie Ching: Barisan Nasional Wins Marginal Pakatan Harapan Seats Vote Shift Due to Cooperation with PAS

(Johor, 12th) Johor DAP Chairperson Teo Nie Ching pointed out that the cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and the Islamic Party (PAS) allowed BN candidates to win in several marginal Pakatan Harapan (PH) constituencies, including Johor Jaya and Perling—both of which DAP failed to retain this time.

Teo Nie Ching posted on Facebook in the early hours of Sunday (July 12) stating that election data show the votes obtained by Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the 2022 Johor state election for the Johor Jaya and Perling constituencies mostly shifted to BN candidates in the 2026 state election.

Therefore, she noted, even though PH’s vote share rose in these two constituencies, it was still insufficient to cross the winning threshold.

Nevertheless, she said DAP would seriously review the reasons for its defeats in Layang-Layang, Tangkak, and other contested seats, conduct in-depth analysis, reflect humbly, and actively improve on shortcomings.

Teo Nie Ching said DAP accepted the election results with humility, respected the choice of the Johor people, and congratulated BN on their victory in this election.

She also thanked the voters who turned out enthusiastically and expressed that DAP deeply cherishes every bit of support and trust given by the voters.

She admitted there are many shortcomings to be reviewed and many areas for improvement, and this election result sent them a clear message that they must do better.

"DAP will continue to promote nation-building, defend the people's rights, and speak out for the people."

She said that DAP will redeploy, adjust strategies, and fully prepare for the upcoming general election, so as not to disappoint the people's expectations.
