KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has proposed the construction of a vertical school in the Residensi Aman MADANI area here to meet the educational needs of local residents.

He said the proposal followed discussions with the developer, the ministry and relevant agencies after the groundbreaking ceremony for the residential project in Bandar Sri Permaisuri on Aug 6.

“Although there is a nearby primary school, its limited capacity necessitates the development of a new school in line with the growing population.

“Therefore, I have proposed the construction of a vertical school within the development area, or a school opposite the residence connected by a pedestrian bridge,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar said the school would be open to all local residents and equipped with facilities in line with the MADANI framework, including a kindergarten, surau, clinic and security centre.

“Certainly, all these complete amenities are being developed for the comfort of the people,” he said.

On Feb 18, the media reported that Kuala Lumpur City Hall planned to develop vertical schools comprising two blocks of between 10 and 17 storeys in the city centre, to address limited land availability and the growing population in the capital.

On July 30, the Education Ministry was reported to have finalised the Planning Guide for Vertical School Development, taking into account several basic design principles, including pupil supervision and safety.
