This year's 21st typhoon, “Matmo”, has strengthened to the level of a severe typhoon, and the China National Meteorological Center continues to issue a red alert for the typhoon.
According to the website of the National Meteorological Center, at 6 a.m. on Sunday (October 5), the center continued to issue a red alert for the typhoon.
“Matmo” strengthened from typhoon level to severe typhoon level at 5 a.m., with its center located over the northwestern part of the South China Sea, about 230 kilometers east-southeast of Xuwen County, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, at latitude 19.8 degrees north and longitude 112.3 degrees east. The maximum wind force near the center is level 14 (42 m/s), the minimum central pressure is 955 hPa, the radius of the level-7 wind circle is 340-400 kilometers, the radius of the level-10 wind circle is 120-150 kilometers, and the radius of the level-12 wind circle is 60-70 kilometers.
It is expected that “Matmo” will move northwestward at a speed of 20-25 kilometers per hour, intensify further, and make landfall around noon along the coast between Wuchuan, Guangdong Province and Wenchang, Hainan Province (severe typhoon level, level 14, 42-45 m/s), and will gradually weaken in intensity after landfall.
