Chinese actress Ju Jingyi, known as the 'once-in-four-thousand-years beauty,' recently had a fallout with her former company, Star48 Media, as the two parties exchanged public accusations. Zeng Yanfan, Ju’s former SNH48 teammate from the same agency, spoke out in her defense on Weibo on the 17th with a lengthy post, listing eight major grievances against Star48. She accused the company of serious unfairness in income distribution, saying the company takes 90% while members only receive 10%. She also claimed the company maliciously withheld salaries, devalued members, and had unreasonable contract terms. She explained that the contract for second-generation members was supposed to be 8 years, and if not yet 30 years old upon completion, it would automatically renew until age 30, debunking the former company’s claim of 20-year contracts as a lie.
Zeng Yanfan also pointed out that fans would vote for them with amounts totaling millions of Taiwanese dollars (about tens of thousands in Ringgit Malaysia) annually, but the company only paid them a maximum monthly salary of 30,000 RMB (about 17,000 Ringgit Malaysia) and delayed the bonus payouts from elections. She tried to terminate her contract for not receiving wages, but was instead charged a 3 million RMB (about 1.74 million Ringgit Malaysia) penalty, bluntly stating: “Isn’t this deceiving young girls?”
Even more outrageous, Zeng Yanfan expressed her dissatisfaction that fans were exploited by the company—any time members signed autographs for fans, they would be fined, and members were subjected to prolonged psychological manipulation (PUA). “At that time, when the company was seeking to raise funds and go public, it also arranged for some members to accompany business executives for drinks. Of course, not all members, but the company would select certain people. However, I believe CEO Wang would protect the members and wouldn’t make them do anything too excessive, probably just socializing—having meals and drinks. Still, it’s unfair that while members respected CEO Wang like a father, he wanted to ruin disobedient members.”
