The number of physical crimes in Singapore reached 10,341 cases in the first half of 2025, a 5.4% increase year-on-year. Among them, molestation cases saw the highest increase of over 20%. Shop theft cases continued to rise year after year.
According to a Lianhe Zaobao report, data released by the Singapore Police Force on the 26th show that in the first half of 2025, there were a total of 10,341 physical crimes, up 5.4% from 9,809 cases during the same period last year, marking the highest growth since 2021.
Shop theft, molestation, voyeurism, and residential theft are the four main categories of crimes of concern.
Data shows that shop theft cases reached 2,097 in the first half of the year, an increase of 4.2% year-on-year, accounting for about 20% of all physical crimes, and is also one of the most common crimes involving teenagers.
In the first half of 2025, molestation cases increased by 21.2%, rising from 666 cases in the same period in 2024 to 807 cases, accounting for 7.8% of the total number of physical crimes. Of these, there were 189 cases in residential areas, 90 on public transportation, and 57 in shopping malls.
Voyeurism cases dropped 2.3% in the first half of 2025, from 258 cases in the same period in 2024 to 252 cases.
Residential theft cases rose 5.9% year-on-year, increasing from 744 to 788 cases.
Burglaries Receive Attention
Although burglaries are not among the four main types of crimes police are focusing on, since June 2024, a series of organized incidents by foreign groups have taken place in some private residential areas, attracting public attention.
Police data shows that burglaries fell sharply by 20% in the first half of 2025, dropping from 65 cases during the same period in 2024 to 52 cases. Nearly half of the cases occurred in residential units, most of which were HDB flats.
