(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) A 26-year-old local man pleaded guilty on Saturday at the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s Court to possessing undeclared cigarettes and e-cigarette products, and was fined BND 42,600.
The defendant, Mohamad Shafieq, was charged under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006, involving possession of various types of cigarettes and e-cigarette products.
The case was uncovered at around 10am on June 25, 2025. At that time, enforcement officers from the Customs Department conducted an operation at RPN Pancha Monggolo housing area in Bandar Seri Begawan, seizing 53 cartons of cigarettes, a pack of mixed cigarettes, and two e-cigarette pods.
The case was heard on February 14, 2026 before Senior Magistrate Dai Wei. After the defendant pleaded guilty, he was fined BND 42,600. If the fine is not paid, 14 months' imprisonment will be imposed in lieu.
All confiscated items, including cigarettes and e-cigarette devices, were ordered to be forfeited and handed over to the government for disposal.
