Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, a private university from Peru, are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in various fields of study next year.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Malaysia, Ricardo Estanislao Morote Canales said the collaboration will focus on three aspects —  biodiversity, renewable energy and tropical diseases.

“We want to work together because we know, for instance, that Sarawak is pushing for a shift from fossil fuels to green energy.

“UNIMAS is also working on combating dengue, which is one of the diseases we have in Peru, so that is the area we want to collaborate on with Sarawak,” he said.

He said that, at the moment, the draft of the MoU is ready and waiting to be signed.

“The MoU is already settled, we just need to sign it. Today, I will meet with UNIMAS to invite them to Peru and probably sign the MoU in January next year,” he said.

He told reporterss after a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
