Iran Demands UN Accountability, Labels US and Israel as Aggressors

Iran has sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, demanding that the Security Council designate Israel and the United States as aggressors and hold them accountable, including for war reparations.

According to a report by the Islamic Republic News Agency cited by Xinhua, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi stated in a letter on the 29th that since June 13, Israel has blatantly violated the UN Charter by launching aggression against Iran, deliberately attacking multiple residential areas and civilian infrastructure, in serious violation of international law. Iranian nuclear facilities in Qom, Arak, Natanz, and Isfahan, under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), have also become targets of attacks by Israel and the United States. This seriously violates the UN Charter, the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and relevant IAEA resolutions.

The letter calls on the Security Council to recognize Israel's aggressive actions and to designate both Israel and the United States as aggressors, holding them accountable—including for war reparations. "The political and military leaders who planned the acts of aggression should also bear personal criminal responsibility."

After Israel launched a large-scale airstrike against Iran in the early morning of June 13, both sides exchanged multiple rounds of attacks. On the 21st, the United States carried out airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. In retaliation, Iran launched a missile attack on the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on the 23rd. On the 24th, according to the timetable announced by the United States, Iran and Israel agreed to a ceasefire.
