Malaysia's first sports-themed film set against the backdrop of the 1992 Thomas Cup victory, 《Sentuhan Wira》, recently held a grand opening ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, officially announcing the start of filming. This locally produced film, which carries the nation's collective memory and sports spirit, immediately garnered significant industry attention upon its launch and is regarded as one of the most representative Malaysian sports-themed movies in recent years.
The ceremony was jointly hosted by veteran artiste and director Huang Dewei (Ah Sui) and Huang Shunjie, and was witnessed by representatives from the Malaysian Film & Television Production Association, showcasing the full support of the local film industry for the project. At the same time, 1992 Thomas Cup champions Dato' Rashid Sidek and Dato' Cheah Soon Kit also attended as technical and historical advisors, joining the production team and sponsors to witness this important moment together.
The line-up of main actors, including Kim Azzim, Sam Liew, Ahmad Syafiq, Ahmad Syahir, Azim Yusof, Hon Kahoe, Ooi Liang Chia, Lim Si Jie, and Henry Ong, all appeared at the event, participating in the opening ceremony alongside the behind-the-scenes team.
Speaking about the birth of 《Sentuhan Wira》, director Ah Sui shared that he was inspired after discussing the glory and hardships of the 1992 Thomas Cup victory with the two former champions, learning about the untold struggles behind the glory. This gradually gave rise to the idea of bringing this history to the big screen. After many discussions and refinements, the project finally came to fruition, blending sporting spirit with human emotions.

The film's core concept, "Sentuhan Wira untuk Malaysia," will recreate the heated historic moment on the night of the 1992 finals when the whole country rejoiced. It depicts the athletes' journey, battling through pressure and challenges till the end. The story not only focuses on the sports arena but, through teamwork and personal growth, also presents the "Malaysian Spirit" of unity among multi-ethnic communities under the banner of sportsmanship, conveying a power of solidarity that transcends race and class.
The director's team stated that 《Sentuhan Wira》 is not just a re-enactment of a sporting event but a film that carries the nation's emotions and the memory of an era. They aim to combine local creative talent and professional production resources, crafting a high-quality work from an international perspective, to allow Malaysian stories to reach an even wider stage.#
